Web Browser & Add-ons- Please tell me you are not still using Internet Explorer... Drop that bad Microsoft product and switch right now.
- The single most important add-on for Firefox. This blocks those annoying banners you see on websites.
- A companion for Adblock Plus, a list of the most annoying banners on the web.
- This block those laggy flash applications people put on their websites.
- My favorite Firefox theme. I hate how some people have such a cluttered browser full of bars, icons, etc... This is perfect for my taste.
- Unlike others, I like to use only one browser window with many tabs. The "single window mode" option, that comes with this add-on, is just what I want.
- If you still insist on still not using Firefox then you can use Opera. Anything as long as it's not Internet Explorer.
- Google is taking over the world! This is their next step, a web browser. I would use this browser if it had Adblock and they fix the bookmarks system. I hate the fact that I have to have another bar on screen just for a bookmarks button.
Antivirus- A good & FREE antivirus program. It's fast and doesn't take up a lot of resources on your system. It runs in the background so you don't have to worry about it. Remember to register for the free 1 year subscription when you get the program. (Don't worry, you can keep getting another subscription after the year ends. You won't have to pay anything.)
- This is another very good FREE antivirus program. It's lightweight and comes with features. I don't think it's as good as Avast! but it's still adequate in protecting your comp.
Office- Just as good as Microsoft Office.
Media- All the codecs in the world needed by you to view the many formats out there.
- No need to download that resource hog, RealPlayer.
- Another way to watch QuickTime movies.
- The best and ONLY music player you should use.
- This user interface organizes everything so much better than the original.
- Use this to convert between the many audio formats.
Utilities- The best archive utility.
- Another good file archiver.
- The BEST BitTorrent client.
- A useful program that lets you burn your movies onto DVDs so you can watch them with any home DVD player.
- Ever wanted to make an EXACT copy of any DVD or CD? This also burn DVD & CD images too.
- I use this to make audio CDs.
- Thanks to this, I don't have to use that AWFUL Adobe Reader thing.
- You DO get faster download speed if you use this manager.
- Open source alternative to NERO.
- Another good alternative to NERO.
- Use this to create electronic post-it notes on your desktop. A great way to leave reminders for yourself.
Graphics & Sounds- The best of the best for image editing.
- Not as good as Photoshop, but it's an alternative for people out there looking to go open source.
- Easily create those fancy FLASH graphics.
- This is what I used to create those videos on my Youtube page.
- Use this to record the games you play on the PC.
Communication- For those of you who thinks Pidgin is too simple looking or too UGLY, Digsby is for you. It takes up more system resources than Pidgin but looks better. It also supports a lot of IM accounts like Pidgin.
- My current IM program. It takes up less resources than Digsby and has a simpler interface (which is more of my style). Any IM accounts you have out there can probably be loaded on Pidgin.
- One of my favorite plugins for Pidgin. This shows people, who have me on their buddies list, what song I'm listening to at that exact moment. For those of you that uses Digsby, it already has this plugin built right in.
- The current most popular voice chat program on the net.
- Some people prefer this type of voice chat over Skype & Gizmo5
Operating Systems- Well... most of the programs listed above can only be used for Windows but there are a few that will work on other OS.
- If you ever wanted to try Linux, this is the FIRST distribution you should use. Compared to other distributions of the Linux OS, Unbuntu is the easiest and most user friendly. Nevertheless, Linux's main weaknessnes are still there: no games, no mainstream programs, and not very user friendly. Besides from all those flaws, Linux is a really good and secure OS.
- They call it Good OS, but I call it GOOGLE OS since Google left its footprints all over this. From the outside looking in, you can't even tell that it's using Ubuntu as its backbone.
